An Apple a Day… Is Not Enough
This workshop is designed for parents who are interested in helping their children and families to broaden their culinary repertoire and increase their use of foods that have been identified as highly nutritious and essential to good health and disease prevention. The workshop is three hours long and
is intended for parent and child (ages 6-14). It is a fun, hands-on
cooking and information class that includes a nutritious,
delicious, environmentally-conscious meal. Participants will learn how to change their diets in simple, tasty ways, to dramatically improve health while saving money and the environment. Participants will learn about current research on the connection between diet and good health, delivered in a child-friendly way with plenty of games and activities. They will also receive many useful hand-outs and recipes.
A Low Carbon Diet: Saving the Planet...One Bite at a Time
Take a Bite out of Climate Change; Cool Cuisine; Less Meat, Less Heat. Headlines and websites are popping up everywhere showing us new ways to help cool down our planet. Whether you drive alot or a little, whether you own a hydrid or a hummer, you can make easy changes to your diet that will make an even BIGGER difference to the environment than your transportation choices. Come learn about the United Nations report that is revolutionising the green movement. This FAMILY-FRIENDLY interactive cooking class will include all the latest information on the connection between what's on our plate and our planet's fate. Find out exactly which food choices will lower your carbon footprint most dramatically, where to buy them and how to cook and enjoy them.
Lean and Green: Healthy Body, Healthy Planet
Did you know that the foods that are best for good health are also the same foods that are good for the environment? Did you know that according to the United Nations there is strong connection between climate change and diet? In this session you will learn about the important connections between the health of our bodies, minds and our environment. If your New Year's Resolutions include losing weight, eating better, saving money, protecting the environment and spending time with friends and family, this is your solution. Find out how some straightforward dietary changes can help you drop the extra weight without any calorie counting, portion control or weird shakes and powders. Like all our workshops, we will prepare and eat some delicious food together while reviewing the scientific evidence for eating certain foods and avoiding others. This workshop is ideal for teens and adults who want to look great, feel better and contribute to solving our environmental crisis. Bring along your partner or teen to get you both on the same page. We guarantee you will get the results you are looking for.
Pack a Punch: How to Make a Lunch that Really Works
In these economically tough and environmentally compromised times we all need to look at our daily choices and find a way to cut cost and waste. Lunch times have become high cost and high waste occasions! Do you spend more than you should on grabbing lunch on the go? Is each item individually wrapped or in a wasteful take-out container? This workshop is for you. Come and learn, in a fun and hands-on way, how to pack a lunch that packs a punch. Sick of soggy sandwiches? Tired of dry muffins or slimy carrots? In this session we will cover quick and easy lunch time options, better packaging choices and all the ways to save time, save money and save the environment.
Healthy Bodies Make Healthy Minds
This workshop was created for children from grades one to six in a classroom setting. It comes in one and two-hour formats and is loads of fun for the children while helping them to learn and experience good, healthy food. Each workshop includes a healthy snack time to introduce children to some of the healthiest foods around. Each participating child will receive a small package of resources including a new Canada’s Food Guide and a Produce Passport.
The Power Lunch
A workshop for busy professionals in the habit of eating out regularly. The workshop, offered over lunch time and including a healthy lunch, will introduce participants to the wealth of research about a healthy diets’ role in supporting optimum physical and mental health including foods to focus on for high stress days and foods to avoid. Practical tips for improving their lunch time choices and a package of helpful hand-outs will round out this stimulating session.
Help, My Teen/Tween/Partner Wants to Be Vegetarian!
A cooking class and workshop for parents (and teens/tweens aged 10-18) who are learning how and why a vegetarian or vegan diet is a good and safe option. . This workshop is three hours long and allows parent and teen to create a fantastic meal together while learning about the benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet. We will also cover common pitfalls and how to ensure that the new diet provides all the essential nutrients necessary for optimal health. The emphasis is on preparing healthy lunches but the principles and recipes are easily adaptable to other meals as well. Participants will get to take home a portion of what is prepared to share with other family members.
Green Cuisine: How to Pack an Eco-Lunch
This short workshop will teach you the fundamentals of green cuisine for lunch. Learn the principles of green food, get handy tips for making quick, delicious, ecological lunches plus eat a tasty lunch that showcases the greenest foods. Find out about eating lower on the food chain and what leading environmentalists such as David Suzuki and Al Gore say about making green diet choices. One hour to change your lunch time habits for life.
