Philosophy

Credible Edibles is committed to purchasing food that is good, clean and fair. We seek out local produce and products whenever possible and feasible. We choose food that has been grown, prepared or packaged as close to Ottawa as possible when it is available. A list of our main local suppliers can be found by clicking here. For items that cannot be grown or produced locally, such as chocolate, tea or bananas, we will endeavour to purchase fair trade products while keeping the cost to our customers affordable.

Our lunch delivery service, workshops and recipes focus on foods that current research has identified as being the healthiest and most essential to maintain good health and weight and to prevent diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. These super foods have been proven to maximise good health and longevity while preventing ill health and disease.

We provide a wide range of flavours based on the cuisine of a myriad cultures that have much to teach us about good taste and good health. Menus, workshops and recipes include dishes from Lebanon, Greece, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Vietnam, China, Japan, Ethiopia, Morocco and the best of North American healthy cuisine. Join us to expand your taste buds and travel the world with every meal or workshop we offer.

Credible Edibles works hard to ensure that any animal products used are prepared without harming the well-being of the animal or the environment. All our eggs are supplied by a local free-range poultry farm where all the hens roam free and eat a healthy diet. Tuna and salmon are chosen based on the catch method and from stocks that are not threatened nor threatening to sustainability. Credible Edibles does not serve any other meat products.

Furthermore Credible Edibles uses only post-consumer recycled paper and environmentally-friendly office products. Deliveries are made with a fuel-efficient vehicle and, as of April 2010, we also offer bicycle-powered deliveries. All kitchen waste is composted and other items are re-used or recycled as appropriate. Our commitment is to have the smallest possible environmental footprint. We are proud supporters of the David Suzuki Foundation and have exceeded the recommendations of the Nature Challenge.

Since April 2008, in honour of Earth Day, Credible Edibles has been carbon-free by changing power suppliers. We decided that we had to go even further in reducing our impact on the ever more fragile environment. We chose to sign up with Bullfrog Power.

Bullfrog sources power exclusively from generators who meet or exceed the federal government's Environmental ChoiceM Program EcoLogoM standard for renewable electricity. Their power comes from clean, emissions-free sources like wind power and low-impact water power instead of carbon-intensive sources like coal and oil.
